Reflection Questions for Research & Scholarship:

1. Reflect on developing leadership-level knowledge, skills, and practices in this competency. What has been especially impactful/meaningful/important to you personally and professionally?

Answer: Research and Scholarship to my surprise has been the most interesting and beneficial for me. I did not realize how much I enjoy research and scholarly writing. The area I was intimidated by was the area in which I excelled. I have learned so much about myself through this CES doctoral journey. I want to explore so much more once I become a CES educator.

2. Describe an area of strength that you have developed while in the program in this area of competence. What is one way you plan to utilize this strength in your vocation?

Answer:  I have learned through research and scholarship courses that I can grow and develop these skills and use these skills to prepare for presentations, scholarly writing articles, etc. A skill I did not realize I had, I had to develop it because my writing was like a diamond in the rough, but I am learning and enjoying it.

3. Describe an area of challenge/growth opportunity in this area of competence. What is your plan to develop excellence in this area?

Answer: My challenge with research and scholarship is understanding the language and the ability to write peer articles. I plan to continue to write, receive feedback, and submit articles. As I practice I will develop my skills as a future scholarly writer.

4. Reflect on how faith in Christ relates to this competency.

Answer: Joshua 1:8 “Keep this book of the Law always on your lips; meditate in it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful”. As I reflect on this scripture, I realize that I have to stay in God’s word to have success, with God’s direction and guidance I learn from him and his direction for my life as a counselor and a CES.
