Reflection Questions for Counseling:
1. Reflect on developing leadership-level knowledge, skills, and practices in this competency. What has been especially impactful/meaningful/important to you personally and professionally? (Discuss the process).
Answer: As I reflect on my journey as a counselor and soon counselor educator and supervisor, I realize how important is to build trust with my clients. Building that connection and fostering trust is my main goal. Once I establish that connection it makes the sessions more productive and meaningful for the client. Leading and guiding my clients through their personal life journey’s and allowing them to explore past and present issues or concerns is key to their healing process.
What has been meaningful and impactful for me personally and professionally is when clients feel that the sessions are working and they are healing from any past hurts. It gives me a sense that I am working in my purpose and my passion for helping hurting individuals.

2. Describe an area of strength that you have developed while in the program in this area of competence. What is one way you plan to utilize this strength in your vocation?
Answer: My strength is being able to use the counseling competencies and multi-cultural competencies to work with a diverse clientele. Having the ability to understand other cultures and ethnicities had given me knowledge beyond walls, which means learning and understanding the importance of others cultures and their environment and understand that every culture is different and unique but important. I learned to use different methodologies to support their social and emotional needs.
3. Describe an area of challenge/growth opportunity in this area of competence. What is your plan to develop excellence in this area?
Answer: One of the challenges is I at times may begin to experience vicarious trauma when dealing with clients regularly. I have to learn to incorporate self-care into my daily routine to stay full-filled and balanced as a counselor so I can continue to be ready and available emotionally for my clients.
Through prayer and meditation, I plan to connect to the vine (Christ) with faith-based techniques to support my personal and professional counselor role and identity.

4. Reflect on how faith in Christ relates to this competency.
Answer: I am an integrative counselor, which means I use a variety of methods with clients. Because of my ability to utilize a variety of methods I plan to use these methods personally and professionally to support faith-based competency to support my well-being. (Physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually).
